Death Metal legends Obituary call Tampa, Florida home. What Norway is to black metal and the Bay Area is to thrash, Tampa is indisputably to the legacy of death metal. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, bands like Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Obituary came together in the city to create and refine a genre that is still having an impact on extreme and not so extreme metal today.
Noisey’s Kim Kelly traveled to Tampa to catch the band at an intimate hometown show. She spent some time getting to know the Tardy brothers… and a bunch of feral cats.
